Ikukuoma Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) with passion for assisting youths actualize their potentials and become succeful in life has teamed up with Dikemba Chuks and GRACE Chilaka Foundation to launch anti drug drive in Secondary Schools in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area.
The Foundation in continuation of its “Healthy Thinking Club” initiative an anti drug abuse and illicit trafficking program in an integrated resource cooperation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP) embarked on awareness and sensitization campaign to Umuokirika Secondary Technical School, and Comprehensive School, Okirikanweke both in Ekwereazu and Ahiazu Mbaise respectively.
The visit to the two schools aimed at sensitizing the students on the dangers of drug abuse and consumption was at the instance of Hon Chief Dikemba Chuks Chilaka who through his Dikemba Chuks and Grace Foundation partnered with Ikukuoma Foundation to make it a reality.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director General of Ikukuma Foundation, Comrade Julius Nnaji expressed delight at the positive response and interest of the students and encouraged them to be guided by and put what they learnt into practice to better their lives.
In his speech at the occasion, Hon Chuks Dikemba Chilaka who was represented by Mr Ikenna Godswill expressed the desire of the Founder, to propagate comprehensive development of youths hence he partnered with Ikukuoma Foundation to facilitate the mobilization and sensitization of the dangers of drug abuses in schools located in his community. He urged the students to take advantage of the seminar and thanked Ikukuoma Foundation for acceding to his request as he looked forward to more progressive partnerships in future.
The resource persons Mr Samson Uche and Anokam Precious from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Mr Ifechi Uchegbu from the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP), Imo State Chapter took turns to highlight the different types of hard drugs and other substances that can be harmful to the body. In their different lectures with the same objective, they climaxed with a sermonization on total abstinence from harmful substances like cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ice (mkpuru mmiri), and alcoholic substances.
In their closing remarks respectively, the Principals of the two schools, thanked the visiting humanitarian organizations, as well and the anti drug parastatals for capturing their different institutions in their scheme, and requested for follow up visits and routine seminars and lectures for the sustainability of results.
The Healthy Thinking Club is a peer to peer anti-drug initiative aimed at using young secondary school lads to inspire a generational orientation against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. The crusade is being carried out across the secondary schools in Imo State and the entire South East.
