-Why Obi, Wabara,others opposed nomination
The immediate past Governor of Imo state and former Deputy speaker of House of Representatives, Rt.Emeka Ihedioha, CON has debunked media reports that he is opposed to the nomination of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, popularly called SamDaddy as the consensus candidate of the South east for the position of National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP for the National Convention of the party slated for October 30 and 31, 2021.
This was contained in a release dated October 18 and signed by the ex-governor’s Media Aide, Chibuike Onyeukwu.
The information according to him should be ignored and disregarded because it is false, misleading and deceptive as PDP in Imo state is one big family.
The release reads in part, “the information is entirely misleading and should be disregarded.
It is noteworthy that Rt. Hon Ihedioha, last Friday, had a meeting with Senator Anyanwu shortly after Thursday’s meeting of critical stakeholders of the PDP Southeast, held in Enugu.
“Rt. Hon. Ihedioha extended hand of fellowship and assured Senator Anyanwu of his support, that of Imo PDP and indeed his friends and associates across the country to emerge as National Secretary at the Convention and to succeed in office.
“Let all issues, therefore be rested and nobody should play politics with it as it is not an issue in contest.
“Senator Anyanwu is neither the problem of Imo PDP nor that of our state. We know our problem.
“Imo PDP remains a united family driven by a common purpose. Any attempt by fifth columnists to cause disaffection, especially among its leaders will not succeed”, says Ihedioha.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed by a gravevine source that the South East leaders who are opposed to nomination of Anyanwu as National Secretary did so because they were not consulted.
Among leaders who kicked against Anyanwu’s nomination include;former governors of Imo and Anambra states, Achike Udenwa and Peter Obi, among others.
The leaders averred that the Thursday, October 14, meeting of the PDP hosted by the Enugu state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was inconclusive as no decision was taken as to who occupies the position of PDP National Secretary on behalf of the South east.
They posited that, “Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, of Enugu state and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State just came to the meeting and announced the purported selection of Senator Anyanwu, a move that was instantly opposed and rejected by most delegates who vowed to oppose it.
The source further said, “also present at the meeting were former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, Onyema Ugochukwu, Senator Uche Ekwunife and many others, who also frowned at the imposition of Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary, contrary to the wish of the south east zone”.
At the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the South East leaders are now on one page over the contentious issue.Anyanwu was said to have waded in and began to reach out to the aggrieved leaders with view of reconciling differences with them.
