Contrary to repeated assurances by the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodinma that residents should go about their legitimate businesses without fear of attack or molestation, feelers from the Orlu axis and environ indicate that the area is still enveloped by palpable tension as reports of heinous killings, kidnapping, etc still pervade the air.
A case in point was the discovery of a fresh blood dripping decapitated head of a young man displayed on a table at Orie Okporo market square in Orlu L.G.A yesterday morning by yet to be identified people.
The previous day, Wednesday July 28, 2021 the dismembered heads of a 70 year old retired mechanic Felix Okechukwu who hails from Ududu village and that of Berechukwu Udemba who hails from Amanato Okporo community both in Orlu LGA were also seen displayed on a table in front of a shop at Orie Okporo market on Wednesday July 28, 2021.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incidents was told by village source that “some yet to be identified gun men served the head of a 70 year old retired mechanic , Felix Okechukwu popularly called Akaonyewetere and also beheaded Berechukwu Udemba, a popular palm wine tapper and displayed them at the Orie Okporo community market”.
The heads of the victims who were said to have been killed in their separate houses in the early hours of Wednesday and brought to the market were later retrieved by their families; as video clips of the incidents have gone viral.
The reason for the killings and those responsible were yet to be known as at press time.
However, police spokesperson in the state, Michael Abattam said the police was on top of the matter.
A cross section of Imolites have expressed concern about the latest spate of killings which they said has pulled the rug off the feet of the governor’s assurances and also projected the state in very bad light
They called on the state government to put necessary machinery in motion to address the ugly situation.
