Olu Owerri, the esteemed socio-cultural umbrella organization of the nine local government areas of Owerri zone has berated the Chief Executive Officer of ABM Global, a manufacturing outfit, Prince Alex Mbata for claiming that he will deliver Owerri zone to governor Uzodinma’s APC, come 2023 election.
The group in a release signed by the President General, Chief Martin Opara KSJI and National Secretary, Barr Sylvester Nwogu expressed dismay that Alex Mbata who they accused of hinging his political belief and ideology on pecuniary benefits and stomach infrastructure threw caution to the wind by subtly campaigning for Governor Uzodinma whose questionable emergence through the Supreme Court judgment of January 14, 2020, denied Owerri zone of their hard earned victory in the 2019 governorship election.
They wondered why the Ngwoma Obube, Owerri North born business mogul cannot brace up and contest the governorship election in 2023, to redress the injustice meted out to Owerri zone in the political equation of Imo State instead of massaging his ego by falsely claiming that he can deliver Owerri zone to Uzodinma and APC in 2023. The release reads in full: “The attention of Olu Owerri has been drawn to the provocative utterances of one Mr Alex Mbata of Owerri North Local Government, to the effect that he has the capacity to deliver Owerri Zone to Sen. Hope Uzodinma’s APC in 2023, thereby indirectly campaigning for Gov. Hope Uzodinma who, in the first place, had no justifiable reason to be seated at Douglas House as Governor of Imo State, not to talk of seeking a second term in 2023.
We view this statement as reckless, insensitive and bogus, considering the history and disposition of the people of our zone. We are however worried that Mr Mbata threw caution to the wind to provoke and insult the generality of Owerri people who are yet to recover from the injustice of the 14th January 2020 Supreme Court judgment that robbed Owerri zone of its hard won mandate and denied Imo people the good governance the Ihedioha era ushered.
We remind the general public of the character of Mr Alex Mbata, who for pecuniary reasons, aided and abated the Rochas Okorocha government to perpetrate all manner of evil against the people of Owerri zone, only to abandon Okorocha when Gov. Ihedioha was elected. Today, true to his character, he has also jumped over to “Camp Hope” to sing the praises of Sen. Hope Uzodinma, further showing Imolites that he belongs to the food is ready group of politicians.
We dare ask Mr Mbata why he cannot run for the governorship in 2023 to redress the injustice meted out to Owerri zone in the political arithmetic of Imo State, if he had capacity to deliver Owerri Zone.
We wish to place on record that there will be no place for saboteurs and men of multiple faces in 2023 Owerri Senate election, if that is the reason for this quick ejaculation. We reiterate that the people of Owerri zone will pursue our mandate and right of governing Imo State to a logical and successful conclusion before voting for any candidate from Okigwe or Orlu zones. We are committed to a coalition for good governance, equity and development of our dear state”.
