v Says: Governor mismanaging situation
The former Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Barr Uche Onyeagucha has berated Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma for allegedly mismanaging the security situation in Imo.
He maintained that the insecurity started from the governor’s federal constituency, which is made up of Orsu, Oru East and Orlu. He said that the governor had proudly claimed that he invited the military to quell uprising and since then, the state has not known peace.
Onyeagucha who spoke during an exclusive interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, argued that Uzodinma rather than tackle the security challenges facing the state, is busy threatening to arrest opposition leaders and accusing them of sponsoring the unrest.
When asked if the uprising in Imo could be as a result of the supreme court verdict that threw Hope Uzodinma up as the winner of the 2019 governorship election, Onyeagocha attributed the situation to so many factors but particular on what he described as failure of leadership in Imo state and Nigeria at large. He said, those factors are the reason civil servants are always on the streets of Owerri protesting.”Instead of paying them,they will unleash terror on them”,he said.
He recalled that, when Ihedioha was in office, the PDP led government had well thought out programs for Imo people, more importantly, the governor was a listening governor. “Unlike what we have today where the governor has made himself inaccessible to the people he claims to lead. This is one of the factors worsening the situation in Imo. When people agitate for their salaries, it makes no meaning when you silence them because, in due time, they will resurface and still make their demands”.
The former House of Representatives member for Owerri Federal Constituency advised Uzodinma to stop pursuing shadow and face governance, adding that the idea of accusing the opposition of fueling the uprising in the state when he actually knows the bone of contention won’t help anybody but worsen the situation.
Speaking on insecurity rocking South East, Onyeagucha said that the resignation of the Chairman of the Ebubeagu South-East security outfit who is a brother to governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi shows that the two APC governors-Uzodinma and Umahi are not doing well. “If other governors have refused to fund the Ebubeagu security outfit, why shouldn’t the two governors fund it?”, Onyeagucha queried.
Continuing, Onyeaguocha who claimed that he had worked with Buhari and had also contested the Owerri senatorial seatin 2015 under APC accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being the major problem of the unrest in the South East and Nigeria as a whole,owing to his decision to sideline the region,in keeping to his 5% and 95% mantra after 2019 election.
He said,it is the 5% mantra of Buhari for so South East that has escalated the agitation.
