· Condemn harassment of citizens by security agents
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislators in the Imo state house of Assembly, yesterday denied allegations that they are romancing and having a chummy relationship with the All Progressive Congress APC with a view to defecting to the latter, as published in an Owerri based newspaper (not Nigeria Watchdog).
The lawmakers who spoke through the Minority Leader, Barr Anyadike Nwosu who represents Ezinihitte state constituency described the newspaper report as baseless and without any iota of truth, pointing out that, as legislators representing their various constituencies, they are not expected to work or operate in isolation. “Legislative duty entails working in synergy with our colleagues irrespective of political affiliation with a view to advancing the interest of the state and her people as no one person constitutes a legislative Assembly. To this effect, holding meetings with other legislators who belong to different political parties does not in any way imply that we want to defect.”
Anyadike wondered why PDP lawmakers should leave the party for the APC that is from all indications presently a sinking ship “It is only a politician who places more premium on stomach infrastructure that will contemplate defecting from the PDP to any other political party irrespective of political ideology.”
The Minority Leader explained that what the PDP has suffered so far is a temporary set back that will be overcome in no distant time as the party will reclaim Imo state which he said is hundred percent PDP.
Hon Anyadike called on media practitioners to always verify facts before publication in line with the ethics of their profession “And if they are short of what to write about, they should highlight the injustices being meted out to PDP legislators by the APC lawmakers who have been heartlessly sharing the money meant for the legislature.”
They PDP caucus also used the opportunity to call on security agencies to stop forthwith, the unnecessary harassment, intimidation, arrest and detention of Imo citizens and stressed the need for them to respect the rule of engagement in the discharge of their duties as law enforcement agents.
The legislators expressed dismay at the kind of unpalatable reports they have been getting from their constituents and majority of Imo Citizens that bother on intimidation, extortion, killing, maiming etc.
