The Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, has set up a security outfit named Eastern Security Network ESN, charged with the responsibility of protecting the South East geopolitical zone of the country from the incessant attacks of terrorists and bandits of northern extraction who parade as herdsmen.
The IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who disclosed this in a post on his Facebook platform, blamed governors of the five South East states for their questionable silence and non challance in the face of unmitigated attacks that have resulted in the death of thousands of innocent, harmless and unarmed people nationwide.
He wondered why IPOB was labeled a terrorist organization and proscribed while nothing is being said about the ignoble activities of Fulani herdsmen, Miyetti Allah and other organizations that kill, maim and unleash mayhem on people, almost on daily basis.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu further said, “we will announce our preparedness to defend the land of Biafra. We have waited in vain for many years for governors of the South East and South-South to rise to the occasion and do what their counterparts in Yoruba land did, even what the terrorist Miyetti Allah managed to do. We have now decided to take our destiny in our hands and are determined to defend the land of Biafra. We are resolute and will not relent until every trace of Fulani oppression and terrorism is eradicated from our midst”.
Continuing, he said, “for years, our mothers abandoned their farms, our daughters are raped and cut into pieces. Everybody is aware of what happened at Nimbo, at Ozokwani and what is presently happening in some parts of Abia State. We can’t allow it to continue. This present generation of IPOB won’t tolerate it. We will rather die than allow the “janjaweed” terrorists take over our lands”.
Kanu recalled that the invading terrorists were said to have come from Gambia, Mali and Niger Republic, while the Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai said some came from Chad. “We are therefore setting up the Eastern Security Network to combat the excesses of these vagabonds and criminals and defend our lands from the ravage of the Fulani”.
Recall that all states of the South West geopolitical zone, irrespective of political affiliation, in synergy with the leaders and stakeholders of the zone established a security outfit named Amotekun, for the purpose of protecting their territory against all kinds of terrorism, unlawful invasion and intrusion from all quarters.
To further show their seriousness, the outfit was given legal backing and permitted to carry arms by their state Houses of Assembly. This, has to a large extent, checked the menace of Fulani herdsmen attack and other acts of violence in the zone.
