-Describes IIRS demand notice as Obnoxious
A media consultant, Sunny Ndukwu has picked a hole in the recent directive by the governor of Imo State, senator Hope Uzodinma through the board of Internal Revenue that media houses, especially the prints, should pay tax arrears of N5m each.
In a press statement circulated yesterday, Ndukwu said, “Gov Uzodinma once again in his calculated attempt to have a field day in his day to day activities has misfired, this time around, it is a witch hunt and vendetta mission against the local media.
The notification letter issued by Imo state Internal Revenue Services, (IIRS) demanding #5Million and served to media houses in the state is a confirmation of this assertion. I just pray he will be able to withstand the heat, because he will definitely get what he called for. This is no longer an issue of Emelumba’s incompetence or inability of the Information commissioner to utilize his office to solicit media patronage or lack of synergy amongst his media handlers, let’s call a spade by its name.
“Gov Hope Uzodinma cannot deny knowledge of this “Evil” Tax notice. According to an impeccable source, the witch hunt is targeted at some Trumpeta Newspapers in Imo State.
Based on my findings, the recent directive from the state Govt through the IIRS is a ploy to gag the media but such executive decision is dead on arrival. We shall accord solidarity to any media house marked for decimation in the state. This state belongs to all of us and not to few opportunists in the corridor of power.
“I seize this opportunity to call on the governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma to summon the chairman, Imo state Internal Revenue Services, (IIRS) for questioning/clarification on the obnoxious tax notice of N5 million naira to media houses in the state.
The claim has further exposed the shared poverty government as lacking in any vision on how to run the affairs of Imo State with its decision to fire from both cylinders without adequately presenting genuine knowledge of the issues.
