As teachers all over Nigeria and the rest of the world celebrate World Teachers Day, Rt . Hon Henry Nwawuba who represents the people of Mbaitoli/Ikeduru in the Federal House of Representatives,who is highly concerned about the plight of teachers vowed to improve their conditions of service and remuneration.
Nwawuba recognises and appreciates the vital role of teachers in nurturing, teaching and educating the society; a role that he said makes for a better society or world. “Nobody can deny the fact that he/she never had either a formal or informal contact with a teacher while growing up.”
He has therefore resolved to celebrate with those he refers to as the king makers of our modern world,using himself as a case study having received the best form of qualitative education and good moral upbringing from dedicated and selfless teacher . He called on the executives at all levels of government not to believe that teachers reward is in heaven but to endeavour to ensure regular and adequate remuneration for all categories of teachers across the Country.
Nwawuba who is a nominee for an award in November 2020 as the best performing and resourceful lawmaker, South East zone by the Paragon World Empowerment Foundation (PWEF), an internationally recognized NGO however posited that despite the hardship, humiliation, insults, challenges and social difficulties faced and often suffered by Teachers in Nigeria, they have remained resilient, committed, charismatic and dedicated to their duties as if all their lives depend on it.
