The Imo State chapter of All Progressive Congress (APC) led by Mr. Dan Nwafor has opted to adopt direct mode primaries in the election of a candidate for Imo North senate bye-election on October 31 as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for choosing a candidate to replace late Ben Uwajumogu.
In a ten point communiqué issued at the end of a well attended meeting of the state executive committee at Owerri on Sunday August 23, the party stated that, in line with constitutional provisions of the party, Article 13.7 and after due deliberation had adopted the direct mode of primaries for the forth coming primary election for Imo North senatorial district and consequently recommended that the National Caretaker Committee should adopt the same method and ratify it accordingly.
According to the communiqué, the decision of the state executive council to adopt the direct primaries mode is to ensure that a more popular, credible and acceptable candidate emerges as the flag bearer of APC.
The state executive as a part of its resolution, passed a vote of confidence on the All Progressive Party government at the federal level led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In the communiqué jointly signed by Chief Daniel Nwafor as chairman and Obioma Ireagwu as secretary the state executive committee also passed a vote of confidence on the Governor Mai Mala Bunmi led National Caretaker Committee of APC.
The state executive committee also reviewed activities and reports from the Daniel Nwafor led State exco in Imo State and being satisfied with the activities of the party, also passed a vote of confidence on the Daniel Nwafor led administration of Imo State All Progressive Congress (APC) Executives.
“We encourage all intending members of our party especially those who want to run for election on the platform of our party, to proceed immediately to their wards and register as members of the party in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the party (Oct. 2014 as amended)”.
“The state executive committee enjoins His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the leader of our party in Imo State to do more to ensure the unity and progress of our party in Imo State”.
