The National Working Committee (NUC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued guidelines and time-table notifying potentials aspirants to the vacant seat of Imo North senatorial election which was declared vacant following the demise of Dist. Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu. The senatorial bye election now fixed for October 31, 2020 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will be contested by all the registered political parties operating within the zone.
A statement issued and signed by the state organizing secretary of the party in Imo State,Nze Law Biaduo invites and directs all potential aspirants to abide and be guided by the timetable and guidelines stipulated,published and do the needful in compliance and preparatory for the scheduled bye-election.
The release also states that further notifications on matters arising from the process shall be duly communicated to only those interested aspirants seeking for the ticket of the party. Those seeking for further information have been directed to contact the State Working Committee at the PDP Secretariat located 98, Okigwe road Owerri.
According to the release, the following are the activities and dates of the processes leading to the bye-election:
1. Sales of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms – Monday, August 17 – Saturday, August 22, 2020.
2. Last day for submission of forms (EOI & NOI) – Sunday, August 23, 2020.
3. Screening of aspirants – Tuesday, August 25, 2020
4. Appeals on screening exercise – Thursday, August 27, 2020.
5. Ward Congress to elect 3-man Ad-hoc Ward Delegates – Saturday, August 29, 2020.
6. Ward Congress appeals – Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
7. Local Government Congresses to elect (1) National Delegate and (1) Person Living with Disability per LGA – Thursday, September 3, 2020.
8. LGA Congresses appeals – Friday, September 4, 2020.
9. Publication of Delegates’ List – Friday, September 4, 2020.
10. Party Primary (Candidate nomination) – Saturday, September 5, 2020.
11. Appeals on Party Primary – Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
12. NWC meeting on approval of candidates and compilation of documents – Thursday, September 10, 2020.
13. Last day for submission of names of candidates to the Commission (INEC) – Sunday, September 13, 2020.
14. Last day for submission of Agents’ names to LGA offices of INEC – Saturday, October 17, 2020.
15. Date of election – October 31, 2020.
