The Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor of Imo State on Public Safety, Hon Prince Ugochukwu Nzekwe, yesterday August 6th, 2020, paid a surprise visit to some secondary schools in Owerri metropolis to ascertain the extent of their preparedness in welcoming students back to school.
Speaking to newsmen after the safety survey and assessment carried out by his office,revealed that most of the schools in Imo are not ready for resumption as they have failed to comply with the Covid-19 protocol. The SA in his speech reminded some of the principals met in school that there must be some safety measures put in place to protect our children from Covid-19 pandemic presently ravaging the entire globe.
According to the two term former Imo House of Assembly member, whereas some schools are ready with availability of items displayed to observe Covid-19 protocols with the teachers and students seen clearing school premises for proper hygiene, others are in very precarious and deleterious hygiene and environmental hazard conditions.
The Nkwerre born Safety expert however expressed disappointment with the high level of decay, deterioration and abandonment at the Emmanuel College, where bushes have almost taken over the entire school buildings. The situation he pointed out is so bad that the risk of allowing students resume classes there is very high.
However, the school principal, whose name was not confirmed promised to clear all bushes on or before Monday, August 12, 2020.
