From a grapevine source, it has been revealed that the immediate past Governor of Imo State, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha is yet to decide on which candidate to support for the forthcoming state Congress of the party for the post of State Chairman.
Our source revealed that Ihedioha who is expected to be in Imo today is however closely following up the development in the party.”As a leader, he wishes to see everyone show capacity and allow majority opinion sail through at the end of the day”, he stated.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is billed to hold its State congress on Saturday, August 1, 2020.
Already, among those contesting for the position of State Chairman include; Prof Obioma Iheduru; former IMSUBEB Chairman, Engr Charles Ugwu, former Minister of Commerce and Industry, Comrade Emeka Nwokeke; a Youth Leader turned politician and host of others.
It was gathered that most of the aspirants in order to win the hearts of delegates have resorted to dropping names of prominent leaders of the party.Others engage in blackmail. “As a matter of fact, the older politicians who are opposed to the desired idea of injecting fresh blood have invented blackmail to discredit few of the younger ones in the race”, he hinted.
According to him, “just few days ago, while the current Chairman of the party was addressing the congress committee, one of the leaders who had served as deputy speaker of Imo State House of Assembly was quoted as saying that the major contender among the young people contesting is too “small to handle the position”. The statement which was roundly criticized by those present at the occasion was viewed as undemocratic and anachronistic, when compared with the APC, where Daniel Nwafor who is even younger than Emeka Nwokeke has proved to be a hard-nut to crack and had proven book makers wrong”.
The said former Deputy Speaker even succeeded in office because of the support and solidarity galvanized by his former legislative aide, who is now rubbishing shoulders with him and had ruffled his feathers.
