– Reject Charles Ugwu as Chairman
A formidable political pressure group in Imo State under the aegis of “Concerned Imo PDP Stakeholders Forum”, has condemned in very strong terms, the plan by some leaders in the party to impose Engr Charles Ugwu as Chairman against the popular choice of majority of party members.
Nigeria Watchdog had earlier reported that some Abuja politicians, especially the elders who aspire to contest various elections in 2023, are very resolute to impose Engr Charles Ugwu as Imo PDP Chairman. The source hinted that in a bid to actualize this nefarious project, they constituted a committee to reach out to Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha who they observed was undecided on who to support.
Speaking on behalf of the Concerned Imo PDP Stakeholders Forum yesterday in Owerri, the Publicity Secretary, Owelle Evans Williams, a prominent political leader in Ikeduru and former LGA chairmanship Aspirant condemned in strong term the threat by some party members allegedly working for Charles Ugwu against supporters of Comrade Emeka Nwokeke, who is popularly known as Iroko, to have their way at all cost.
He described Nwokeke as the best candidate, hence the reason all the youths in PDP, including some leaders, have thrown their weight behind him.
Williams stated that since Nwokeke began his tour of LGAs across the state, supporters of Ugwu have been feeling agitated and uncomfortable. “What they do now is to threaten Comrade Nwokeke’s supporters in attempt to discourage them from participating in our issue based consultation and campaign. Going by the warm reception we receive everywhere we go, it is obvious that both the elders and the youths are clamouring for a paradigm shift and that is what Iroko represents.
“Our endorsement of him as the most formidable Imo PDP support group is in inline with our resolve to move the party forward. Nwokeke is a field marshal. We can’t afford to elect a man who will stay in his palatial home while the youths struggle to win elections for him”, he reiterated.
Speaking further, he expressed concern over the marital relationship that exists between Engr Charles Ugwu and Barr Marcel Nlemigbo, by revealing that Nlemigbo’s daughter is married to Ugwu’s son, saying that, it may be difficult for PDP to remain a viable opposition party since both party men can always meet to discuss their interest against overriding interest of the party and it’s committed members.
Speaking also, another stakeholders in the group, Comrade Ahumaraeze Obumnaeke Chibuike condemned in it’s entirety the threat by some leaders of PDP, loyal to Ugwu to frustrate Nwokeke. He maintained that everyone interested to contest for the chairmanship position should be allowed to meet the delegates without threat.
He vowed that his group, Concerned Imo PDP stakeholders Forrum will resist any attempt to cow Nwokeke. Chibuikem blamed the failure of PDP in the past on imposition of candidates.
