– Enjoins leaders to prioritize youth training, empowerment
The Majority Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Amb Uche Ogbuagu, who represents Ikeduru state constituency in the state legislature, has said that politics is not a profession as erroneously believed by some people, but an avenue to offer selfless service, contribute meaningfully to the development of the society and enhance the welfare and well-being of the people.
The Akabo, Ikeduru born ace comedian turned politician stated this, when members of Mbaitoli Alive, the Mbaitoli local government area chapter of Ikeduru Alive paid him a solidarity visit in his Akabo residence.
Amb Ogbuagu stated that leadership at all levels entails passion, dedication and commitment to service with a view to addressing the needs of the people. “Any leader who does not have this mind set, is not worth his onion and is bound to fail woefully”.
He enjoined those in leadership positions at all levels to be concerned about the youths by making their training and empowerment a priority to enable them actualize their noble dreams and ambitions in the overall interest of the society. “We should lead by example, character, conduct and attitude, to enable us positively influence the youths to become worthy ambassadors of their various communities, because, to who much is given, much is expected”.
He berated those who extort, collect kick backs and engage in all kinds of fraudulent practices and urged them to desist forthwith or face unpleasant consequences.
Amb Ogbuagu commended his guests for forming Mbaitoli Alive and urged them to focus on sustaining the noble goals and objectives of forming the association and avoid negative sentiments, actions, utterances and external influences that will negate and truncate their vision.
In his speech, the Chairman of Mbaitoli Alive, Chief Boniface Nwaigbo, who led the delegation lamented the stunted infrastructural and socio-economic development of the area, despite their proximity to the state capital and having some of their sons, daughters in strategic positions in past and present governments at state and national levels. “Hence, we decided to unite under a platform, to enable us vigorously pursue and seek the liberation of Mbaitoli from squalor, stunted development and lack of landmark projects, arising from utter neglect, and lack of commitment by our leaders”.
He regretted that Mbaitoli, said to be the second largest LGA in the country, has “become a big for nothing” in terms of quality infrastructure, unlike Ikeduru that has recorded numerous achievements within one year of Amb Ogbuagu’s quality, purposeful and people-oriented representation in the state legislature. “We implore Hon Uche Ogbuagu to facilitate synergy between Ikeduru and Mbaitoli Alive, with a view to urgently rescuing our area. We passionately call on him to consider the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Afor Nnudo market, in Mbaitoli East, sand filling part of Nkwo Orodo market in Mbaitoli North, provision of and energizing of a transformer at Ohum Ubommiri, for Mbaitoli South and patching of a ditch on the road from Nkwo Orji to Atta Junction. We are optimistic that with your people oriented disposition and position in the current state government, our requests will receive accerated attention”.
In his contribution, on behalf of the youths, Eziefule Nnadi, stated that the Majority Leader’s visible landmark achievements in Ikeduru within a very short time, motivated them to pay him a visit and seek his assistance. He eulogized the lawmaker for his youth friendly programmes and recalled his support during Mbieri Nwaotuoke Football Competition in 2019.
Others on the delegation who spoke in the same vein, include Chief Emma Duru, Mr Emma Jackson, Anunobi and Mrs Meg Onokwa, while some Ikeduru leaders present at the occasion include, Chief John Nwike, Chief Goddy Ibeawuchi, Chrus Egesimba and some aides of the lawmaker.
