- Anyikwa emerges President
The apex youth platform in Orlu zone, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, last Saturday held its general election. The election which was conducted in observance of social distancing and other Covid-19 protocols was monitored by representatives of other youth groups in Imo state.
The election is the very first since the body was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
In his remarks, the chairman of the electoral committee, Comrade Kyrian Echerebo, expressed satisfaction with the maturity exhibited by the contestants and called on the voters to put the interest of Orluzurumee over personal gains in choosing the leaders.
Before the commencement of voting, two contenders for the office of president – Hon Franklyn Ngoforo and Engr. Christian Okolie – announced their withdrawal from the race, and said their decision was informed by the need to join forces to move Orlu zone forward.
In unanimous affirmation, Engr. Sylvester Anyikwa, was declared winner for the office of president. Some other winners include Rev. Dr. Ugonna Okoro for secretary, Comrade Ferdinand Uzoigwe for vice president, Comrade Chibueze Paschal for financial secretary, Comrade Onuoha Ugochukwu for organizing secretary, Ndukauba Peter for treasurer, Nnajiuba Obinna for publicity secretary and Comrade Ohakwe Jewel Ebere for director of socials.
Other winners are Daniel Genevieve for assistant publicity secretary, Odunze Chibuike for diaspora coordinator, Matthew Ogu for assistant secretary, Ugochukwu Okoro for chief ex-officio and Eguobi Ikechukwu for ex-officio.
Speaking, the newly elected president Anyikwa vowed to dedicate his time and resources in ensuring that youths in Orlu zone are given a strong voice. He added that the overriding need to revive the grassroots chapters of the group would not be toiled with.
The inauguration of the new executive has been slated for Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the national secretariat of the group in Orlu LGA.
In his goodwill message, the president of Owerri Zonal Youths, Prince Chidi Obi, hailed Oruzurumee Youth Assembly for being exceptionally organized, and enjoined them to never rest in their oars as the leading youth body in Imo state.
