– Others to undergo screening Tomorrow
– Imo records more cases
Sequel to speculations that some principal officers of the Imo State House of Assembly have been caught by the bug of the Coronavirus pandemic, there is growing tension and in the hallowed chambers, as sitting may be postponed indefinitely pending when the health status of most of the members is confirmed.
A lawmaker who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity lamented that they are not safe because, the 27 separate public address systems formerly used by members “broke down three months ago and the leadership of the legislature remained adamant and refused to effect repairs, despite our complaints. That is why we resorted to using one microphone which we pass around the twenty seven (27) of us. This may have facilitated the spread of the virus, worsened the situation and exposed us to this avoidable hazard”.
He also revealed that it is suspected that about four members of the house have already tested positive to the virus hence, Wednesday 17th June, 2020, has been fixed as date for all members of the state legislature to be screened to ascertain the actual number of those already infected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Efforts to find out from him the names of those that are already infected was futile, as he refused to mention their names. He, however said that, “they are mainly principal officers. As I speak to you now, I am not even sure of my health status because, I may or may not have been infected with the virus, considering the way we have been operating and exchanging the only functional microphone among us for almost three (3) months now”.
Meanwhile, information from the State Task Force on Covid-19 reveals that Imo State has recorded One Hundred and Thirty Three (135) cases of the dreaded virus.
