There is presently fear and palpable tension in some communities in the state, following reports that the Imo State House of Assembly is about to unveil modalities for the scrapping and merging of some autonomous communities in the state, hence some traditional rulers, Presidents General and community leaders in the state who think they may be affected are now running helter skelter.
A source who spoke to Watchdog Newspaper on condition of anonymity alleged that the move is an attempt by the Hope Uzodinma led government to arm-twist and compel some communities to align with and accept some unpleasant policies of the state government and in some cases, to whip into line some communities perceived to be opposed or not loyal to the government.
Continuing, the source alleged that the planned scrapping of some autonomous communities may also be a subtle way of intimidating some communities to soften their resistance of the mass infiltration of and the rumoured building of schools for Almajiris in the state.
Some people who spoke to this reporter on condition of anonymity concerning the issue at stake, posited that some communities are likely to vehemently oppose and resist the move considering their enormous input and sacrifice. They urged the Imo House of Assembly to tread with caution to avoid over heating the polity and derailing the existing peace in the state.
