– Advises Owerri zone to close ranks
The leaders of Owerri senatorial zone held a political summit last week at All Saints Cathedral Church field, Egbu, Owerri North LGA where they deliberated on the way forward ahead of the 2019 Imo guber and the need for a governor from Owerri zone. In his opening prayer, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu the Aha Eji Aga Mba Ndigbo prayed for peace in the nation.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Pascal Dozie of Diamon Bank Ng. Plc, said the summit is an off-shoot of the social and political re-awakening of Owerri zone. He spoke of challenges like the echoes of disunity which over ride the unity of purpose, prosperity, progress and development of Owerri zone. He remarked that the summit will henceforth ensure unity among the people of Owerri zone, and create result oriented industrial and investment opportunity. He then urged all politicians from the area to close ranks and work together.
Speaking, Chief Christian Oweaya Anukam (Agbawodikeizu) thanked the organizers of the summit saying, “he is very happy with the success of the event as it will promote the socio-political development of the zone. He commended the leaders of Owerri zone for their laudable efforts and called on everyone to spread the message in their various wards and local governments reiterating that the summit is to effect a change.
Chief Oweaya decried the worrisome imposition of candidate, god-fatherism and stressed that there is no sole candidate or particular person from Owerri zone for 2019. He advised them not to peddle false information that are capable of causing mischief.
Oweaya disclosed that power is taken and not given. He advised people and electorate, Owerri zone and indigenes to go all out and take power rather than wait to be given power. He maintained that it is about one year to another election and urged politicians with ambition including therefore local government chairmen, state legislators, house of representatives, lawmakers and senators to start doing tangible things for their people. He appealed that all abandoned projects by the past political office holders should be completed and attention given to the issue of creation and empowerment programme for the youths to curb political thuggery and other vices.
The Agbawodikeizu as he is fondly called, also canvassed for togetherness because “Ofe Owerri is collectively cooked and it is eaten together which is why it is not put in the fridge and Ofe Owerri does not stay overnight”. He advised the organizers of the summit to distance Owerri zone from people already tainted with bribery and corruption spirit. Chief Oweaya said Owerri zone needs Okigwe zone. He stated that everything centres on dialogue and not confrontation, stressing that Owerri zone cannot do it alone, and called for collaboration and dialogue with others in order to succeed.
He enjoined the people of Owerri zone to go to their political parties and register in order to vote when the chips are down, and called on politicians to join different parties and contest during election rather than going to court to challenge the winner after losing the election.
