The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State has described its former executive members who recently resigned their membership of the party and defected to the All Progressive Congress, APC as double agents, detractors and moles in the party. The party said that the defectors had also exhibited gross incompetence and failed woefully while they held respective positions for the party.
Speaking to newsmen at the party Secretariat in Owerri, yesterday, the Acting State Chairman, Chief Martins Ejiogu said that despite the defections, the party on daily basis is being fortified and consolidated, and “cannot be distracted by a rump of scrappy self-seeking defectors.”
Ejiogu said their exit was reprieve, relief and positive development to the party, adding, “for long they have remained huge liabilities to our great party.” Ejiogu who posited that the defection was orchestrated by selfish motives, advised the opposition to be wary of the defectors as they have no value to add to their party.
He said, “let me state unmistakably that we consider this development banal, inconsequential and worthless. Besides, they had in principle left the party long time ago, what played out today was a mere drama, a dummy from a script that had been written months before now. “It is however imperative to observe that their so-called defection to APC was essentially orchestrated by selfish motives because of the zoning arrangement of the party which did not favour them.
“We are accordingly inclined to advise the political party they have purportedly defected to, to be wary of these elements who evidently do not have any iota of value to add to any organization.”The party also accused the former party Chairman, Barr. Charles Ezekwem of fraudulent practices, stressing that his decision to join APC was to avoid scrutiny for his known corruption and sharp practices.
Ejiogu said, “In fact, a few days after the dubious and controversial Supreme Court judgment on Imo governorship election petitions, Ezekwem cleverly looted the Imo PDP account in excess of N10m without recourse to the party’s accounting procedure. “He would be making a big mistake and be suffering from the worst form of delusion if he thinks that by running away from PDP to APC, he has escaped from the party and justice and will no longer account for the party’s money and property he made away with.”Meanwhile, some of the the former PDP officers who officially defected to APC at the party office same yesterday, said their defection marked the official collapse of PDP in the state.
They posited that their decision was to join force with and encourage the present administration of Sen. Hope Uzodinma to move the state forward. The defectors included Jerry Egemba (Legal Adviser), Damian Opara (Publicity Secretary) and Williams Ahanonu (Youth Leader), had in recent times, resigned their respective positions and subsequently joined the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Others who also left the party for APC were Harry Ihebinike, (Assistant Publicity Secretary), Leo-Great Awazia (National Ex-officio) and Maximus Okedu (former Assistant Financial Secretary) among other members.
