Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma has been admonished to be careful with those battling against the use of consultants in the execution of government jobs and other services.
Comrade Uche Nwokeji, the National Secretary of Orlu Political Action Committee,OPAC who doubles as President of the Progressive Alumni Association of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University gave the warning, while reacting to alarm raised by Save Imo Group, powered by Nze Ebube Agu Ekenulo after OCDA General Manager Engineer Innocent Ikpamazie; recently inaugurated revenue consultants and Taskforce for the government agency.
He described the alarm as a false alarm by one without deep understanding of the imperatives of consultants in carrying out government jobs and services in a special agency like OCDA, stating clearly that those against the recent inauguration of Taskforce and engagement of consultants by OCDA General Manager are completely ignorant of the uniqueness of the agency.
The vocal comrade noted that if proper investigation should be carried out about those raising alarm against the innocent, selfless and patriotic action of the OCDA Boss, the governor will be shocked to notice that these were failed government consultants who made themselves a willing tool as ever ready conduit pipe for the siphoning of Government funds through lack of accountability and transparency in revenue collection.
Comrade Nwokeji noted that OCDA is very unique and needs the services of consultants because of the obvious need to enforce development, control and building regulations in the state, noting that if builders are misbehaving with the presence taskforce, imagine what they will do without consultants and taskforce.
His words; ‘I am not a government consultant, I have no interest, but the truth must be told, frankly speaking, people will not do the right thing if you don’t persuade them to do it, without consultants and presence of Taskforce, the people may not come up to do the needful in OCDA before and during their building construction”. He also asked ‘if those raising alarm were meritoriously selected and inaugurated will they voice out in total condemnation of such noble action? off course you and I know that they will not utter any word against the action of the OCDA GM’.
He maintained his views that it will be extremely difficult for people to come and register their buildings, pay necessary fees and fully comply to building regulations and ethics without the compelling force of members of the Taskforce who will fully go out on them to ensure full compliance to the laid down procedures and rules in project execution.
