Last week, while the lawmakers in Imo State House of Assembly including Hon Eddy Obinna in whose Local Government the school was to be established, unanimously supported the bill that sort to relocate the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences to Umuagwo in Ohaji Egbema, the member representing Ezinihitte Mbaise in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Anyadike Nwosu was said to have narrowly escaped mob attack by some of his colleagues over his opposition to the bill during the debate on the executive bill of the governor of imo state His Excellency senator Hope Uzodimma. The bill titled ” a bill for a law to amend the university of Agriculture and environmental studies, Aboh/Ngor- Okpala. A law no 4 established in 2019 under Owerri” caused uproar leading to altercation among members.
The bill was presented by the majority leader of Imo house of Assembly, Amb. Uche Ogbuagu on 21st May, 2020, during plenary.
Speaking to one of our correspondences, Hon. Nwosu said that “the action meted out at me was planned and calculated act to unleash a serious attack against me because they are aware of my position and every effort to get me to back down hit a brick wall because I made it very clear to them that I am not against the governor or the government rather this particular policy of the governor, I don’t like it because it is anti-people.”
Continuing, the Ezinihitte Mbaise lawmaker averred that, why the people send their own in such a gathering to represent them is for them have a voice, defend and protect their interest which exactly what he is doing, he said.
According to him, the university of Agriculture and environmental studies Aboh/Ngor-Okpala already has all the facilities for the school to take off and it a very suitable environment for academic where students can concentrate and have a proper university education without any distraction and the place they want relocate the university to already houses a polytechnic for the state which awards OND and HND certificates respectively.
He opined that it would have been ideal for the governor while amending the bill to relocate the University from Aboh/Ngor-Okpala to Umuagwo he also amend the bill to relocate the Umuagwo polytechnic to Aboh/Ngor-Okpala because those structures erected there that amount to billions of Naira will lie waste and these are the tax payers’ money. We are crying that our resources are meager but we are not managing it effectively”,Nwosu fumed.
