Latest reports on the Covid-19 pandemic have it that the third index case or incidence of Covid-19 is a native of Ehume Autonomous community in Obowo LGA. The man who lives and does business in the commercial city of Kano state had beaten security road blocks to return home after noticing visible symptoms of the Coronavirus disease on him.
What appeared to be a deliberate resolve to spread the disease among his kits and kins was when rather than quarantine and go into self isolation or raise alarm, the Ehume Obowo born Kano based business man unrestrainly intermingled freely with his people, attending village meetings and burials ceremonies. Though some eagle-eyed members of the communities confronted him with obvious evidences of manifesting Covid-19 pandemic symptoms, he promptly denied the suspicion thus forcing them to alert the members of Imo Task Force on Covid-19 and the officials of the state government who incidentally sent two Ambulances to ferry him to Owerri, where samples of his blood were drawn and later tested and confirmed to be positive.
The Ehume Obowo man has since been quarantined for treatment at the Owerri Imo State isolation centre.
In another development, a dead man yet to be officially identified by name was on Friday, May 8, 2020, smuggled into Umuokoro Umuariam community, where HRH Eze Augustine Nwaigwe (Ezeohachoro 1) reigns supreme not minding the sit at home or lockdown order over Coronavirus pandemic and closure of boundaries amid inter-state movements and buried the next day, Saturday May 9, 2020, after a well attended Christian wake.
During the funeral rites, militant and restive Umuokoro Umuariam Autonomous community youths embarked on massive destruction of peoples economic crops, plantations and business premises. This happened despite restrictions to either movements of people, goods and burials. Already victims of the dastardly and barbaric acts had trooped to the premises of the traditional ruler, HRH Eze Augustine Nwaigwe on Sunday, May 10, 2020, after the barbaric act where they lodged strong worded protests and complaints before the Eze.
Following the protest and threat to revenge, the Eze ordered the arrest of the leaders of the youths who were alleged to be members of a menacing cult group in the area (Umuariam). However the aggrieved complainants were mere told to evaluate cost of their economic crops that were damaged for possible compensation or palliative.
Notwithstanding or minding the Ezes, seeming feeling of sympathy, the people are not happy that he allowed this ugly situation whereby a corpse was brought home to be buried even when it was suspected to be a victim of Coronavirus disease.
The question now is, how did those carrying the corpse beat the security from Port Harcourt through Aba to Umuahia before ending their journey in Obowo?.
Obowo community is presently living in palpable fear that all those who came into contacts with either the Kano based business man or the Umuokoro Umuariam deceased should be isolated.
