Subsequent upon the presidential order of total lockdown and sit at home placed on the two states of Lagos and Ogun together with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, but extended by the Governor, Hope Uzodinma to cover entire Imo territory without any specific palliative measures, several Imolites in the past few days of total markets closure and sit at home order have cried out over severed brutality meted out to them by a combination of the military and police personnel drafted to force compliance of the several orders of Imo government.

In an attempt to force total compliance of sit at home order by government which took effect from Monday, March 30, 2020, and the attendant closure of all markets, police and other security agents have been driving nooks and crannies of Owerri, the state capital and ordering all shops, eateries and every business outfit to close down while all entry points into the town have been barricaded by stern looking security operatives and commuters forced walk to their destinations. Cases where an inter-state commuters/travelers are subjected to some forms of torture or rigorous harsh exercises including frog jumping and rolling on the bare floor under the scorching sun. Others are given some lashes of horsewhip by soldiers before being let go.

Stubborn township bus drivers who flout the directives of “no-movement order” in most cases have their vehicles tires punctured.

There are various reports that petty traders dealing on food items in some parts of the local shops have their wares destroyed. At Douglas road, road  market Owerri, soldiers and police literarily impounded bags of rice, beans, fish, indomie, spaghetti, cosmetics, jewelries and ingredients displayed for sale. Ironically, these personnel never cared to wear masks or any protective wears while chasing after defaulters.
