Senator Rochas Okorocha
Having consistently refused to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Contracts Awarded by him during his eight years tenure as Governor of Imo State, during which period as Governor, he awarded contracts verbally and arbitrarily and in most cases paid for such contracts in full even before commencement, only to later order the Accountant General to approve any amount he deemed appropriate for him and having also failed to get the Presidency and the National Leadership of APC to prevail on the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, to stop the probe panel from exposing his horrendous acts, Okorocha who shunned summons to appear before the panel has resorted to court to obtain an injunction restraining them from indicting him. To disband the Judicial Commission of Enquiry on contract awards 2011-2019, Senator Rochas Okorocha has dragged the Imo State Government, the Chairman (Hon. Justice Benjamin Iheka) and members of the Commission to the Imo State High Court, Owerri, challenging the authority of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry to probe him.
In the originating summons with Suit NO: HOW/260/2020, Senator Rochas Okorocha is asking the court to disband the commission or nullify whatever will be their recommendations against him.
Imo state government is yet to react to this development uptil the time of filing this report.
Okorocha was particularly irked and jolted that his collaborators in the squandering of the riches of Imo State including Dr (Mrs) Uche Ejiogu, who he made Chairman of IMSUBEB, Imo State Commissioner for Education and member for Ihitte/Uboma State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly and his former house boy, Okey Anyikwa, who he appointed into five different boards as Executive Secretary who disengaged at each appointment, only to go home with his official vehicles as an entitlement, could deny him before the commission. They have given graphic narratives of how he abused his office as Governor by solely awarding contracts and disbursing funds for payments from his office through bank transfers.
Mrs Ejiogu who he later gave a total of N30 million to repaint Madonna High School Ihitte and establish a state owned College of Education, they accused Okorocha of fleecing IMSUBEB of N3.3 billion. She expressed surprised that rather than allow her to run the IMSUBEB, Okorocha ordered her to transfer N3.3 billion meant for 91 schools blocks to White Label International Company, owned by his proxy Barr Kennedy Ibeh. Okorocha claims immunity long after leaving office as Governor.
