The Special Adviser to the governor on local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Mayor Eze has cleared the air on the controversy surrounding certain unspecified projects executed by some Local government.
Among such local government areas are Okigwe and Orlu. Okigwe is building an event complex with a sitting capacity of 1000 guests and remodeling and renovating already existing buildings in the council headquarters while Orlu LGA undertook a Block Industry, Health Center and other projects, including renovation of building in the council headquarters.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Ikenga as fondly called, stated that though the state government came up with specified projects for local government areas which are; secretariats and stadia, the Council Chairman are at liberty to chose other populist projects in order not to duplicate projects, stating that for LGAs that already have any of this specified facilities should not bother building another one but look out for what is the priority of the people of the area.
Contrary to the impression that Local governments like Orlu which already has a standard Secretariat built by Hon. Mayor Eze, as executive chairman of Orlu local area, Hon Eze stated that the government understands the prevailing factors that could cause such LGA to deviate from the specified projects for another one. He averred that such projects are in order and have approval of the state government.
It would be recalled that in the course of Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s visit to the 27 Local government areas of Imo State for inspection of projects, on arrival to Okigwe LGA, it was discovered that the Chairman of the Interim Management Committee, Hon Paul Uche and his team, chosed to build an event center which is almost near completion.
However, it was said that the Governor was impressed with the project but advised that it should be solidly built to have a semblance of Standard event center with a playground.
The IMC Chairman while addressing journalists expressed appreciation to the Governor over the benevolence shown to Okigwe people.
