There appears to be some concerted efforts by top Nigerian politicians, to cover up shocking revelations regarding how the former Accountant General of Imo State, Mrs. Stella Udogu, under whose regime Imo State recorded the highest level of financial rascality, improprieties, malfeasances and total disregard to due process in the management of public funds.
This is according to a reliable source at the presidency, is causing disaffection among top government officials in Abuja. It was revealed that the educationist turned Accountant General abinitio, had no requisite qualification or cognate experience for the position of AG but was made qualified by the ex-governor Rochas Okorocha who unilaterally appointed her against all odds.
Udogu, according to our source at EFCC Enugu zonal headquarters, narrated how she paid in a whopping sum of One hundred and twelve Billion Naira (N112 billion) into multiple accounts, all of which had a top government appointee and one of the Ex-Governors daughters as signatories to them but opened with few Companies.
The effort to ascertain the account details of where these monies were paid in, proved abortive as our source refused to disclose the details expressing worry that the agency may trace the source of the information to EFCC, Enugu officials, who recently carried out the sealing of properties belonging to Okorocha.
However, the source hinted that Mrs. Stella Udogu, who in less than two years built so many mensions in Owerri and beyond, has assured the anti-graft agency that she would disclose any information regarding how they misappropriated public fund with belief that the agency will tamper justice with mercy on her. EFCC however opined that, though to err is human, to tamper justice with mercy is not the Commissions policy, not entertained by the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
Another Okorocha’s confidant, who was resident in the United State of America but came back after an appointment was offered him revealed, how the Governor used some companies to retire the huge sum of money claiming they were for projects.
“As a matter of fact, not up to 15% of the relief funds from Federal government purse including the bailout fund was used for the purpose they were meant for. The block projects which the Ex-Governor scattered all over the state, were only to cover up the loots”, the source revealed.
Th presidency has come under major attacks in recent times for shielding high profile corruption cases among those who got APC tickets for contests and those recently nominated by President Buhari as ministers.
