Typical of the saying that the cost of revenge is higher, Prince Charles Amadi (aka) Chavon, who was sometime ago booted out of office when Owelle Rochas Okorocha replaced him as chairman, governing board of Imo State Polytechnic Umuagwo with billionaire Emeka Offor has eventually cut his own pound of flesh by abandoning his former boss and political leader since 2015.
His decision to ditch Governor Okorocha, his son inlaw, Uche Nwosu and Agburu APC, came long after he was appointed as the Director General of both Ugwumba Campaign team and the Agburu being APC camp Loyal to Rochas Okorocha.
In the strategic position which he occupied, Chief Charles Amadi was privy to all the secret meetings and clandestine moves perfected to hijack the Imo APC structure hence his recent defection to the camp of Senator Hope Uzodinma appears to be a fatal and devastating blow to the Agburu APC and the unrelenting efforts of Uche Nwosu to appropriate the APC ticket for 2019.
As the BOT chairman of Ugwumba movement, Charles Amadi was relied to fashion out wide reaching strategies for survival and was never suspected to be nursing any grievances against the movement to warrant his sudden defection.
Revealing this development yesterday, Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha lamented the betrayal of the Ikeduru born politician who was in the inner caucus of his administration.
He informed his rescue mission supporters that when he called Chavon to verify the rumour of his defection, the response he got from Chavon was that he does not want to fall into opposition because of his business interests.
Going by that response, it means that some top echelon of the rescue mission faction of the Imo APC are doubtful of the chances of Uche Nwosu defeating the gale of roadblocks along his path to the Imo Douglas House.
However, the governor reiterated that Uche Nwosu will eventually emerge victorious considering the fact that the rescue mission faction has more structure now coupled with councilors in every community.
Continuing, he stated that in 2011 he defeated an incumbent governor without any of the big wigs in the state who were in the PDP. “In 2015, without elected chairmen, councilors, and federal might, I defeated Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP.How much more now that I have more structures like, commissioners, advisers, elected chairmen, councilors, CGC etc” he queried.
He enjoined his followers not to leave him like some who have left the group assuring them that he will prevail in the end and Uche Nwosu will certainly be the next governor of Imo State.
In a telephone chat, and enquiry on the authenticity of his defection, which is widely described as a stab in the back, Chavon as fondly called was hesitant to answer in the affirmative. He however admitted that he remains a chieftain of Imo APC and willing to support all candidate of the party.
On Uche Nwosu’s candidacy, Chief Amadi expressed readiness to throw his weight behind Nwosu in the event he re-emerges candidate of Imo APC, a possibility that looks bleak and unattainable with the bad blood and discord already created between the national leadership of the party and Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
