There are reports that the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, is presently rocked by internal crises following the indefinite suspension of the Local Government Chairman, Hon Chinonye Agugbuo and Chief D.Mi Agugbuo by the executive of Orodo Ward A, where they hail from.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Acting Chairman of the APC in Mbaitoli LGA and copied to the ward, Local Government Area and State executives of the party.
The letter captioned, “INDEFINITE SUSPENSION OF HON. CHINONYE AGUGBUO AND CHIEF D. M. AGUGBUO FROM APC ORODO WARD A, MBAITOLI L.G.A and signed by all members of the Orodo Ward A executive of the party in the state reads thus, “Sequel to several conducts of misconduct and non adherence to the party constitution by Hon. Chinonye Agugbuo and Chief D. M. Agugbuo, the Executive Committee of our great party, APC, in Grodo Ward A, Mbailtoil L.G.A, met today the 4th of April 2025, and after an exhaustive deliberations have resolved as follows:
That by their conducts, jointly and severally, both Hon. Chinonye Agugbuo and Chief D. M. Agugbuo contravened the party constitution by engaging in acts of misconduct, by disrupting the Owen Zonal Leadership Tour to Mbaitoll LGA on 2nd April, 2025, at the Mbaitoll LGA party secretariat, Ubomiri, through unruly conducts capable of bringing the party to disrepute and thereto embarrassed both the entire Mbaitoli LGA APC and the Owerri Zonal Team led by the indefatigable Zonal Chairman, Chief Justice Ogu, in clear contravention of Article 21:2(ii) of the APC Constitution.
That both Hon. Chinonye Agugbuo and Chief D. M. Agugbuo have not paid any party dues since the past three years, which is also a clear breach of Article 22a (1), of the party Constitution.
When our Governor gave rice to the ward, Hon. Chinonye Agugbuo deprived the ward chairman from having access to the rice. Instead, he took the rice to his house and share it the way he like without the consent of the ward chairman and his executives. During the Governorship elections, Hon Chinonye Agogbuo cantered away all the fund for the election and dump the ward unmonitored all through the election. His father who is our Apex Leader have crated any reasonable impact all through the election. The always use the name of the Governor to intimidate party members.
Consequently, the Orodo Ward A, APC Executive resolved to place Messrs Chinoye Agugbuo and Chief D. Agugbuo on suspension pending the outcome of the report of the disciplinary Committee constituted by us to dispassionately look into the matter in accordance with the constitution of our great party, APC”.
Some members of the party who do not want their names mentioned told this reporter that the removal of Hon Chinonye Agugbuo and Chief D.M Agugbuo from office is long overdue in view of his several unconstitutional actions. According to them, the alleged diversion of about 200,000 thousand dollars earmarked for the governorship election in 2023, which he allegedly withheld and converted to personal use instead of disbursing it for the purpose for which it was provided, was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
“Hon Chinonye Agugbuo neither disbursed nor accounted for the sum of two hundred thousand dollars he was reportedly given as the Chairman of the Party in the Local Government Area, for the governorship election in November, 2023.
He allegedly embezzled the money without using it for the purpose it was provided. Rather, he shared part of it among some of his close allies and absconded. He has not been seen anywhere around since then. But there are reports that he is hibernating in either the UK or the USA, thereby abandoning his duties as the Local Government Area Chairman of our great party, the APC”.
The issue, which is threatening to destroy the fabric of the APC in Mbaitoli LGA, has also factionalized the party into different camps. Some of the political heavy weights in the L.G.A, including the former state chairman of the party, Chief Marcelliunus Nlemigbo (MARCON), the member, representing Mbaitoli State constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Innocent Ikpamezie, among others are said to have taken sides in the matter.
