-New Leadership Set To Emerge
The Orlu Elders Council, led by Prof FC Dike, SAN, has reiterated the need to unite the Orlu people through formidable platforms like Orluzurumee.
The Elders who met recently in Owerri to discuss the way forward for Orlu people had earlier constituted a committee, led by Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie, former Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, to look into the proposal by some prominent Orlu people on the need to bring the 4 registered bodies of Orluzurumee together.
Prof Awuzie, while addressing the Council, informed them of his committee’s effort in uniting the different camps of Orluzurumee, adding that the key players have resolved to step down for the emergence of one Orluzurumee as it was in the past before the Balkanization.
It was later resolved that a day would be fixed for an election to be conducted for the emergence of a new leadership. Before the date, an electoral guideline will be made public.
The popular opinion in the meeting, which was attended by prominent Orlu Sons and Daughters, is that the new leadership should endeavour to avoid dragging the Union into politics.Majority that spoke attributed the problem most of the socio-cultural groups in Imo have had in the past is politics. In most cases, those at the leadership positio of the body use such platforms to promote personal agenda instead of collective one that will see to development of Orlu zone.
