A renowned trado-medical practitioner from Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state, Dr. Kenneth Ebubedike Akoronye, has tasked Imo state government to strive in the development of traditional medicine practice in the state as experienced in China where there is an existing institution that takes the responsibility of training the younger ones and documenting their activities for the incoming generation to inherit.
Akoronye gave the task recently through a media interaction with some newsmen in Owerri while receiving an honorary doctorate award from the Macotics Global Campus Polytechnic, Umuanunu-Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area, an affiliate of Globalkoc University of Science and Arts, USA.
He stated that with the upliftment of traditional medicine practice by the state government in Imo state, cartain ailments that are resistant to orthodox medicine can be handled with ease, stressing that its neglect by same government does not augur well for it.
Akoronye said: “government should therefore recognize and recommend traditional medicine practice’.
On why he was selected for the award by the Macotics Global Campus Polytechnic, Akoronye said that his selection was specifically on the ground of his great exploits in the area of traditional medicine and rendering of some developmental services to his people, adding that though he did not know that people were taking accurate records of those activities at that particular time in his village, home town, Owerri West LGA and Imo state in general.
He stated that it is a thing of joy that he was chosen as one of the recipients of such honorary doctorate award in area of development which earned him (Special Pillar of development).
Speaking further, Akoronye said: “it has come to pass, I thank God almighty who made it possible today and I pray that so many other people will emulate me. If God blesses you, try to bless others”.
It could be recalled that the Macotics Global Campus Polytechnic which is located at Umuanunu-Obinze in Owerri West LGA of the state chose to honour four personalities from different places in this year’s exercise which include:: chief Sunny Onyenweson, Dr.Macdoff Ogueri Njoku, Engr. Orem Maurice Peter and Rev.Obiyor Michael Izuchukwu.
