Perhaps in the light of the recent “Not too young to run bill”, passed by the National Assembly, Imolites are expecting to elect a youth to the prime office of Governor of the state in 2019, as some young politicians have emerged to vie for the post and with the emergence of Mazi Prince Stanley Orum, as the flag bearer of the Young Democratic Party (YDP), for Imo guber in 2019.
Prince Stanley Orum whose campaign slogan has been “the Joke is Over”, was elected at the YDP primary election held at the YDP Secretariat situated along Okigwe road, by delegates drawn from the 27 local government chapters of the party.
The young industrialist turned politician who is acclaimed to be a go-getter and has with his position and money always helped the people of the oil rich local government areas of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta, is adjudged by his admirers especially the youths as the “best for the job”.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Orum expressed excitement over his victory and stated that his desire to contest for the governorship seat is a vision and mission that nobody can stop now that it’s time has come.
He promised a better welfare package for civil servants and other public servants in Imo state who he observed had gone through several harrowing experiences in recent years alongside the retired elderstates men who have been forgotten or abandoned to their fate, with non-payment of accumulated arrears of pensions and gratuities.
He pledged that in addition to prompt payment of wages, salaries and pensions as at when due, he will ensure that other allowances necessary to oil the machinery of governance are adequately and promptly paid, contending that the civil service is the hub and engine room of every good government.
The candidate faulted the idea of obtaining loans to pay worker’s salaries, arguing that with the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) properly collected and adequately accounted for and the state’s monthly allocations, there will be enough to pay workers and needless to borrow. He promised to prioritize, for optimum and efficient results infrastructural development and empowerment, if elected as Governor.
