The Imo State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), recently honoured the United Eastern Region Congress (UERC) with an award of honour as “A GREAT UNIFIER OF THE OLD EASTERN REGION AND AN AMBASSADOR OF PEACE”.
The presentation of the award took place during the party’s carol of the nine lessons and end of the year party held at the party’s secretariat on Saturday 14th December, 2024.
Receiving the award on behalf of the group, the leader of the UERC, High Chief Sam Ike appreciated the leadership of the party for the recognition assuring them it will not be taken for granted.
Speaking further in an interview with newsmen, High Chief Sam Ike described the award as a welcome development stressing that it is an appreciation and encouragement for the good works of the Congress.
The UERC boss explained that the major objective of the group is to unify the former Eastern Region of Nigeria and restore it to its former state before the war.
According to him, Disunity is the major bane of the Eastern Region and is the major reason why the region is not doing well politically.
Other regions are united, their lawmakers are united and their leaders are united but our leaders and politicians are not united and this is what we are trying to do. We should be united so that we can have a common goal.
The award was pre to UERC through Chief Sam Ike by the party’s 2023 Governorship candidate, Prince Obinwa Enwerem.
In his speech, the state chairman of the party, Ambassador Dr. Henry Eluwa, explained that the essence of the event was to celebrate God’s faithfulness and mercy.
According to him, SDP, as a party, trust in God, adding that the event would strengthen the party.
“SDP is the only political party in Imo State that has no crisis. SDP is still strong in Imo State and will produce the next governor of the state”. Eluwa said.
Also speaking, the Rivers State SDP Chairman, Chief Hon. Solsuema Osaro Esq., explained that he came to encourage the party.
