–  As Nonso Nkwa Makes First Public Appearance After 52 Days In Prison

The Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Imo State Council, over the weekend honoured Prof Francis Dike,SAN former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state as their Life Patron. 

The award which was presented to the legal luminary by Chief Ben Osuagwu, a former Chairman of Imo NUJ, in whose tenure the Port Harcourt Road Secretariat was donated to the union by a former Governor of the state.

According to the Chairman, Organizing Committee of the Imo NUJ Press Week, Comrade Victor Madumere, “Prof Dike has remained a source of support and encouragement to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, hence the union deemed it necessary to use the opportunity of the 2024 Press Week to appreciate him for his support and legal services that have been tremendously helpful to the us.”

Responding to the award, Prof Dike commended the union for its steadfastness in upholding justice. He noted that the role of journalists in the society cannot be over emphasized adding that, the award he was given will spur him to do more.

Similarly, Nigeria Watchdog Newspaper, was conferred with a Public Service Award for distinguishing itself as the voice of the people despite numerous challenges. 

In the same vein, Goodness and Mercy Transport Company Ltd, was also honoured with a Public Service Award in recognition of its organizational ability, ingenuity and ability to stick to safety measures in the road transport industry.

Madumere said, “the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council, in the course of its extensive and analytical survey, scored Good and Mercy Transport Company  Ltd high, hence, the resolve to recognize and honour the company.

Others who were conferred with Public Service Awards at the grand finale of the Imo NUJ Press Week, include, Chief Emeka Diwe, National President of the Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU) Chief Ikechukwu Sunday Umeh, the Organizing Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State.

Renowned human rights activist and reputable On Air Personality, Comrade Chinonso Uba (Nonso Nkwa) was also present at the event, which was his first public appearance since his release from prison where he spent 52 days behind bars.
