Comrade Precious Nwadike, an Imo based journalist and publisher has emerged the Orlu senatorial candidate of United Progressive Party (UPP) for Orlu zone.
The acclaimed human rights activist and two-term President of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, emerged unopposed over the weekend as most of those, who initially signaled interest to contest the primary election with him, later withdrew when they noticed Nwadike’s popularity, acceptance and overwhelming goodwill of the people for him.
Addressing journalists shortly after his emergence at the party State secretariat in Owerri, Comrade Nwadike thanked members and leaders of UPP, especially the people of Orlu zone for their confidence in him.
The soft spoken Umudiatu,Orlu born social crusader challenged those he described as sit-tight politicians, aspiring to the same position to a debate on what programs they have for Orlu people.According to him, the era of failed promises is gone and the people must be salvaged through their mandate which should not be given to greedy politicians.
He said, “be rest assured that I will not disappoint you. My ambition to become a senator was motivated by the greed, and insensitivity of our so-called leaders, who have consistently sacrificed the collective interests of our people on the altar of personal aggrandizement and gluttonous acquisition of wealth.
As a past President of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly for 6 years, I traversed the length and breadth of the 12 LGAs of Orlu zone. I know the needs, challenges and aspirations of the people. As a youth, I know the problems of fellow youth, their vision, challenges and obstacles and I will do my best to prioritize and address them. As an entrepreneur, I know the implications of lack of enabling business environment and what they portend, because we are all victims”.
He promised to liaise and work in synergy with relevant authorities and institutions to ensure comprehensive and integrated development of Orlu zone, and the entire Imo state, if elected, and urged the people to support and key into his vision.
Comrade Nwadike, advised the people “to vote wisely and shun treasury looters, dishonest politicians and money bags who are presently throwing their ill-gotten wealth around to buy the conscience of the people and subject them to another agonizing and traumatic four years of hunger, starvation, non-payment of salaries and pensions, aside other anti-people programmes and policies”.
The youthful senatorial candidate, also promised to initiate bills that will improve the welfare of the people, enhance socio-economic, and infrastructural development of the zone. He enjoined the electorate to carefully screen the backgrounds, and track record of all the candidates seeking elective positions in Orlu zone, before casting their votes, to avoid regret and mistakes of the past.
Most people who spoke on the outcome of the election, expressed happiness at Comrade Nwadike’s emergence. They said, “we are really satisfied with the free, fair and transparent election conducted by the UPP electoral committee. We are also happy and excited that Comrade Nwadike has emerged as UPP candidate for Orlu zone. It is now our duty to mobilize and work assiduously to ensure that he becomes our senator, come 2019, because he is capable, resilient and has enormous capacity to deliver and offer effective representation that has eluded Orlu zone for so long.
