There was pandemonium at Carpenter shed, Ekenobizi, Umuopara, in Abia State, before Onuimo bridge yesterday, when a group of gunmen attacked a military checkpoint in a gestapo style, leaving three soldiers dead.
The attack on the newly established checkpoint, has elicited tension and public outrage in the area as residents are wondering how the gunmen were able to unleash such mayhem on soldiers who are seen as well trained personnel that are capable of successfully handling such emergency situations.
The gunmen were said to have issued a very stern warning to Gov Alex Otti of Abia State before dismantling the sand bags with which the soldiers blocked the roads before zooming off.
Aside the three soldiers that were killed, one person was also said to have been beheaded during the tragic incident that has rattled residents of the area who are now gripped with the fear of uncertainty.
