– Say, Legislature, Now Extension Of Executive Arm
The Igbo Youth Congress (IYC) has expressed dismay over what it described as the docility and ineptitude of the 10th Imo State House of Assembly that, rather than being independent as constitutionally provided, has become an appendage of the executive, thereby mortgaging the collective interests of Imo people on the altar of pecuniary benefits and aggrandizement.
The National President of the group, Comrade Sunday Echerebo, who stated this shortly after their last meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital recently, said, they have closely monitored the activities and performances of members of the Imo House of Assembly for sometime and noted that they have been more interested in enacting anti-people laws and singing the praises of the Governor and his executive whose actions, programmes and policies they are supposed to scrutinize and examine critically in the interest of the people.
“We are taking note of the disturbing docile, inept and unimpressive actions, conduct and insensitivity of members of the Imo State House of Assembly with a view to compiling and making public our findings at the appropriate time.
The health, education and other sectors in the state are already comatose, yet the relevant House committees are doing nothing to address the ugly situation. All they are interested in is how to play to the gallery an curry favour from te executive. We have resolved to do every thing within the ambit of the law to address the situation, which includes exposing the complicit lawmakers and their reprehensible actions.”
