…As PSN Imo State Holds Annual Conference/Pharmacy Week 

Ever Green Pharmaceutical stores Orlu yesterday, 17th October, 2024 received an award of honour in recognition of its profound contributions to health care in Imo state and Nigeria from the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN).

The award was well received by Mr. Declan Unogu, the Executive Director (ED) of Ever Green Morning Star Pharmaceutical Industries Limited during the Annual Conference and Pharmacy Week of PSN Imo State Branch with the theme “Pharmacy: innovating advanced universal and holistic healthcare and Leveraging mental wellbeing and technology advancements to transform the pharma industry.

Dr. Ajiero Norbert Felix, the chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Imo State Branch, in his welcome address stated that the conference is a clarion call to action for all pharmacists in Imo to strategically empower and reposition themselves for quality healthcare services, adding that the theme of the pharmacy week is deliberate in reaffirming pharmacists’ commitment to the global best practices and agenda on innovating advanced universal and holistic healthcare by strengthening the professional and primary healthcare components of the healthcare system.

The Chairman of the occasion Prof. Maurice Iwu, in his opening remarks enjoined PSN not to neglect scientific processes and innovations which shall result to productivity, stressing that it is a shame that almost all the pharmaceutical products in Nigeria are imported. 

He challenged them to think outside the box in order to be able to contribute scientifically to the profession, adding that they should not just be hawkers and sellers of drugs produced by others but should be innovative and creative. He urged them never to forget the economic aspect of their profession in playing their critical roles in health care sector.

The Keynote speaker Dr. Daniel O. Anabunwa, dwelt on the importance of embracing innovation for patient care, emphasizing on the importance of training and retraining of pharmacists to do better than they are doing as people who are at the center of health. 

He reiterated that Imo populace should be able to access medical treatment irrespective of where they are, adding that pharmacists should freely give the public relevant information on what to do immediately when faced with health emergencies before they can access good medical treatments.

Ever Green Pharmaceutical Industries received the award of honour alongside Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, The Chairman Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Dr. Emmanuel Okeke, Bishop Ngozi Durueke, the General Overseer of He Reigns Chapel amongst others, in recognition of their pivotal roles in providing good healthcare to Imo Indigenes and their neighbours. 

Dr. Declan Unogu described the award as a challenge given to Ever Green industry limited to do more in Nigeria’s healthcare system which he said has been given to people who are not supposed to be part of it while the core professionals are regrettably neglected, adding that it is their responsibility to take up the challenge and work towards saving lives and impacting meaningfully to Nigeria’s economy.

He noted that the performance of the pharmacists is below expectations in the country due to lack of enabling environment and stressed on the need to invest in the pharmaceutical sector excellently so as to energize and motivate the professionals to do their work more effectively.
