Mazi Chinonso Uba popularly called Nonso Nkwa, a radio broadcaster and human rights activist, has raised alarm over plot by the Imo State government to arrest and frame him up as an accomplice in the burning of the proposed Internally Displaced Persons IDP training camp at Nsu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.

Nonso Nkwa, who, in a post on his social media platform, accused the Hope Uzodinma administration and their agents of plotting to arrest, incriminate and possibly eliminate him for highlighting and bringing the TVC News report not only to the knowledge of Imo people but also on the front burner of public discuss, said, “I have received several calls  from well meaning Imolites on the plot by the Imo state government to arrest me over the attack on the National Open University of Nigeria NOUN study Center at Nsu, in Ehime Mbano LGA and the residence of the former Senator for Okigwe Zone, Sen Frank Ibezim.

Information gathered is that those plotting to arrest me are seriously trying to push the narrative that it was Nonsonkwa who incited the arson, and  must, therefore  go in for it”.

This narrative is like trying to kill a dog by giving it a bad name. These plotters are not even talking about the TVC news report that supposedly caused the upset but are only interested in calling for Nonsonkwa’s head because, to them he is an enemy of the government that must be wasted”.

Nonso Nkwa who contested for the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru federal constituency seat on the platform of the Advanced Democratic Congress ADC, in the 2023 election, further stated that, he was reliably informed that the two videos he made were analytical and self reactionary pointing out that if there were no TVC news report on plans to build an IDP training center in Imo State, he would not have talked about it in the first place.

“The first video I made was an analysis of the TVC News report, which is what every well meaning and patriotic Imolites would have done to alert our people of the said project and its implication.

Besides, the video used by the TVC news reporter was not the video of stranded Imo women and children, but that of northern women and children. This, as far as I am concerned, is the height of conflict, as any one who saw the said news report would believe it was for Northern IDPs”.

“Giving the volatile nature of Imo state and the daily report of fulani herdsmen abducting Imolites around FUTO, Ihiagwa, Nekede,Obinze, Avu, Oforola, Eziobodo and other vulnerable places in Owerri West LGA of Imo state, Imo people are apprehensive of such move to Camp IDPs in Ehime Mbano of the state.

If the TVC News caster or the Reporter had specially mentioned Imo IDPs, Imo people won’t be on edge about anything.

The only person to blame remains the TVC News Reporter.

Another significant lapse to the entire story was the absence of Imo government officials during the inspection of the Centre.  Throughout the TVC news report, no Imo government official was interviewed to give ndi Imo that feeling that the training centre is for Ndi Imo.

In information dissemination, the state Information commissioner would have before the inspection of that facility, issued a press release alerting Ndi Imo of such project, outlining the advantages of such Center to Ndi Imo and Nigeria in general. But nothing like that was done.

In an issue as sensitive as an IDP Training Camp, it is expected that the host community should be put on the know so as to make the people coming for the training more accommodated and accepted by the host community. But nothing like that was done.

Unfortunately, Nonsonkwa is their fall guy for analysing the situation for Ndi Imo.

At no point in my First video, did I incite violence nor destruction.  I called for caution which is not illegal.

My second video was the explanation of the press release from Sen Frank Ibezim which I posted on social media too.

In his press release, he acknowledged that the video used by the TVC news reporter wasn’t filmed in Imo, part of the press release ran thus and I qoute:

“First, I must clarify that the video of refugees attached to the TVC broadcast, which has caused understandable anxiety, was not filmed in Imo State”. End of quote. Even the Senator understood that the video is the main reason for the anxiety in the land.

It is therefore, unbelievable that someone would want to arrest or harm Nonsonkwa because of a TVC News Report? Nonsonkwa is not afraid of arrest or being invited for questioning but won’t be intimidated for speaking out.

I totally condemn the attack on government property built by tax payers money or property belonging to individuals, and I urge the security agencies to fish out the arsonists. I will never be part of destroying government properties rather our job is to make sure government properties are protected at all times”.
