As Imo State LG Polls gather momentum, the people of Umukene and Etioha, Umuagwo Ward, Ohaji/Egbema, have urged Umuagwo Town to allow them to fairly and legitimately produce the next Councillor of Umuagwo Ward for the sake of political equity.

The people of Umukene and Etioha made the urge through Umukene and Etioha Stakeholders Forum in a Communique they signed and made available to the media on Monday, in Owerri.

The Communique, tagged Re- Equity and Fairness: Our Stand, signed by Barr. Oloko Thaddeus, President General of Umukene Town Development Union and Mr. Marcus Nwoke, President General of Etioha, among others, pleaded that Umukene and Etioha should be legitimately allowed to take their turn in 2024 to maintain the sharing formula in the Councillorship Seat.

According to some parts of the Communique, “it is settled since 1988 that the slot for Councillorship Position of Umuagwo Ward would be ceded among the three towns that make up Umuagwo Ward, viz: Umuagwo, Umukene and Etioha, on basis of sharing ratio, wherein Umuagwo takes two simultaneous double ratios while one slot shall be splitted between Umukene and Etioha towns”.

They added, “unjust and unreasonable as this appears, both Umukene and Etioha accepted it and since adoption, a measure of political serenity and acceptance had been sustained among the towns”.

Thus, the people appealed to APC and Governor Hope Uzodimma, who they praised for believing in equity and fairness, to look into the zoning arrangement in Umuagwo Ward as to ensure that equity is maintained with Umukene and Etioha being allowed to produce Councillor of Umuagwo Ward as it is their turn.
