National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area chapter, has condemned the violence unleashed by one Ukaegbu Chigozie Martins on his uncle’s widow.
The group, in a release jointly signed by Comrade Chukwudike Ngozie, Comrade Ohia Chidiebere and Comrade Uzoamah Alexander, as Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively, frowned at the way Ukaegbu Chigozie Martins reportedly inflicted matchet cuts on the woman because of property related issues.
The release dated May, 16, 2024 and made available to the public reads thus, “It is with profound dismay and concern that I address you today regarding a recent incident that has shaken our communities. It has come to my attention that one Mr. Ukaegbu Chigozie Martins of Umuawada Onicha, inflicted a horrific act of violence upon his uncle’s wife, a widow, using a machete over property issues.
As the apex youth body, We categorically condemn such deplorable behavior. Violence against anyone, especially towards vulnerable members of our society like widows, is utterly unacceptable and goes against the principles of peace, justice, and compassion that we hold dear.
Mbaise prides itself on unity, respect, and support for one another. Acts of violence tear at the fabric of our society and threaten the safety and well-being of us all. We cannot and will not tolerate such behavior in our midst.
We urge anyone with information about this incident or any other instances of violence to come forward and report to the appropriate authorities. It is only through collective action and vigilance that we can ensure the safety and security of every member of our community.
Let us reaffirm our commitment to standing against violence and injustice, and let us work together to foster a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued”.
