–         Substantive Suit Yet to Be Heard

The Attorney to the host communities of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Estate Surveyor, Sam Anokam, has debunked the recent report in a section of the media which claimed that he was disgraced and defeated in court.

The Umuchima, Ihiagwa, Owerri West Local Government Area born property magnate, while speaking to newsmen in Owerri, on Tuesday, described the report as the misleading and mischievous antics of disgruntled elements who take delight in mis-informing the public.

“He said, the truth is that the matter, Suit/No: 410/2024, has not been heard.Court only asked that it be refilled because the Court objected to the idea of the plaintiffs approaching it in representative capacity. This, prompted the Plaintiffs to refile the suit, listing the names of the 18 persons who are suing FUTO through Chief Anokam”.

He further disclosed that the Court will commence hearing in the matter any moment from now, contrary to the false and misleading report that he has lost out, disgraced and defeated.

Recall, that FUTO host communities have been in a legal battle with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), over the lingering unsettled land dispute which warranted the host communities to seek redress in court.

The latter are claiming that FUTO encroached on their ancestral lands, and that they were not paid compensation for the lands they donated to the institution.

The issue has raised a lot of dust, while several committees and visitation panels by the federal and state governments have looked into the matter. There have also been a lot of claims and counter claims, in addition to sponsored disclaimers and rebuttals by both parties.
