Former vice-president and Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar hosted his former running mate and presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi on Monday at his place of residence.

This was disclosed in a tweet issued by Atiku on his verified X page while sharing the pictures of the duo after the meeting.

The post which showed Obi and Atiku exchanging handshakes was captioned, “It was my honour and privilege to host @PeterObi today. – AA”/

The meeting of the two prominent politicians had generated mixed reactions from netizens who thought Atiku and Obi were working on how to unite and form a strong force that would defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

A user, OTUNBA wrote: “If Atiku and Peter Obi work together in 2027 they’ll kick Bola Tinubu out.

“Two options.

1) Atiku drops his ambition and supports Peter Obi for President.

2) Peter Obi agrees to be Atiku’s running mate, then in 2031 after Atiku’s administration Obi will run as President.”

It had also been reported how Paul Ibe, the spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, blamed the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, for Peter Obi’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Ibe had said this during an interview on Seun Okinbaloye’s Mic on podcast.

According to Ibe, what pushed Peter Obi out of the PDP was Wike’s insistence that the party’s presidential ticket should go to the Southern region and not be narrowed down to the Southeast.

He said Atiku wanted the PDP to zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the Southeast but Wike worked against it.
