– Condemns Relocation Plan Of Imo poly
A socio-political pressure group, Imolites For Good Governance IYFGG, has reacted to speculations making the round in several quarters that the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, is proposing to relocate the Orlu campus of the Imo State Polytechnic from its current location to his home town, Omuma, in Oru East Local Government Area, and thereafter, convert the vast premises of former Technical Acquisition Center (TESAC) that was converted to Orlu campus of Imo Poly during the former Rochas Okorocha’s tenure, to a pastoral center.
Addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital yesterday, the group’s Coordinators of Programmes, Gideon Nwachukwu, expressed concern over the development. He wondered why the Governor should contemplate relocating the school to Omuma and convert it’s former site to a pastoral center, at a time that most states are investing in skill acquisition.
“What the Governor should do, is to invest in upgrading the facilities and then map out a section of the school for skill acquisition for which it was originally earmarked. He should also take a holistic look at the present scenario, rather than concentrating only on Omuma, his community”.
He also posited that the Governor cannot unilaterally donate other peoples land to whoever he deems fit. Besides, the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria said that it is only in overriding public interest and under the Land Use, Act that the Governor can use peoples lands.
The group sympathized with Orlu community and vowed to stand by them in their resolve to reject and resist what they referred to as glaring injustice.
Recall, that this same group had earlier reminded the Governor of his promise to sponsor 4000 Imo youths to Europe where they would be offered jobs, a promise that has remained unfulfilled till date.
They urged the Governor to look inwards to devise another way of fulfilling his promise, if the overseas jobs he promised at the peak of his campaign are no longer feasible. This, they said will give a level of credibility to what he is saying about the relocation of Orlu campus of the Imo State Polytechnic.
