– Worried Over Delayed Time Table
Members of the various political parties who had perfected plans to contest the Imo State Local Government election which Governor Hope Uzodinma had at different times promised to conduct, are once again counting their losses as the election has been put on hold indefinitely.
Some of them who spoke to this reporter complained bitterly about the money they have always been made to spend on fruitless campaigns, lobbying and paying homage to political god fathers for endorsement and support.
One of them who was almost weeping said he is in dilemma and does not know what to do because he has spent so much on campaign and mobilization, aside the huge amounts that were extorted by greedy party officials adding that he had spent over #3m in his bid to reach out to the electorate. This, he said is the fate of most of them aspirants in the state, who are now broke, confused and dejected.
Recall that Governor Hope Uzodinma had on several occasions promised to conduct local government elections in the state but did not until the end of his first tenure.
Some of the aspirants who spoke in separate interviews urged the Governor to conduct local government elections without further delay, “because he, on several occasions slammed past Governors of the state for not conducting the election. Hence, he does not have cause to delay. Besides, activities in the various local government councils have been stagnant. Again, most of the various Local Government Councils have been over grown by grass, as the workers have, as a result of lack of motivation lost interest in their jobs. He urged the Governor not to allow himself get to soaked the same way in the dirty water for which he, at different times condemned his predecessors.
