-Says: Governance On Standstill In Imo
– Tells Gov To Tackle Economic Crisis
Dr Sam Amadi, former Chairman, National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has expressed concern over the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma decision appoint Head of Political Bureau at a time the state is stagnant and without direction.
Amadi, who stated this while reacting to the appointment of Barr Enyinnaya Onuegbu, as the Head of Political Bureau in a post on his social media platform said, “Congratulations Ebekwodike on your well deserved appointment.
“My worry is why the Governor is concentrating on political appointment in his second and final tenure. With the prevailing economic crises, we expect him to prioritize development over politics”.
“Our brother could be Head of Service, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) or whatever. But let the Governor focus on governance. We need to know what he is doing with all the allocations and other discretional funds from the federal government”.
Amadi, further posited that governance in Imo State is currently switched off because Uzodinma is operating more as a national leader than as the Chief Executive of a State adding that, “Abia is on, Lagos is on, Ebonyi is on. But sadly, Imo is off. Let Imo be on”.
Speaking in the same vein, the National President of Olu Owerri, the socio-cultural umbrella body of the 9 Local Government Areas in Owerri zone, Chief Martin Opara, who, like Sam Amadi and Barr Onuegbu, hails from Ngor Okpalla Local Government Area, while congratulating Onuegbu on his appointment, as Head, Political Bureau, said, he had expected that Onuegbu would be appointed the Secretary to the Government of Imo State because Ngor Okpalla deserves better.
Aside the two aforementioned persons, Imo people across political divide have expressed disappointment that the Governor after keeping the people in suspense for so long was unable to unveil his complete cabinet, thereby keeping governance and related issues at abeyance. This, they said has had unpleasant consequences on the people.
They noted that the absence of Commissioners and other principal political office holders has created a disturbing vacuum in the affairs of the state. “For instance, most major roads in Owerri Municipal Council are littered with refuse heaps, while traffic congestion that is always a night mare for commuters and motorists has become the order of the day because nobody is incharge to give directives to relevant agencies.
“Another issue that further complicates the scenario is that the Permanent Secretaries who the sacked Commissioners formally handed over to are saying that they were not given specific mandate or framework to operate. Hence they are being cautions to avoid over stepping their bounds”.
They called on the Governor to, as a matter of urgency unveil his new cabinet speed up governance that is currently at a snail speed.
