– Calls For Peace, Unity
The leadership of the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has expressed dismay over the factionalization of the association in Imo State, while also calling on the contending parties to close ranks and allow peace and unity to reign.
The National Chairperson of the association, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim K. Bura, who stated this in a statement captioned “On Factionalization of IMO NAWOJ: A Call for Calm”, said, “Prior to our emergence on November 25 as the 11th Executive to lead this noble association, we made it clear and unmistakably certain that the pursuit of the ideals of peace, unity and progress for the association will be our ultimate goal.
We are resolute about this, and Reuniting our members will always be our greatest pursuit.
To this end, we implore our sisters in Imo State NAWOJ to remain calm as we make efforts to call the two factions together with a view to resolving all grey areas where disaffection may have arisen in the past and still linger even in the present.
We urge you all to remain law abiding and go about your media businesses without undue confrontations and unnecessary verbal attacks that may lead to fisticuffs or outright violence. We urge you all to please guard your utterances.
We appeal for decorum and call on all NAWOJIANS to bear in mind that we have dreams and aspirations to collectively realize together, and we can only achieve them in an atmosphere of peace and unity.
We do not want us to be weighed down by past or current misunderstandings in any form.
Please, let us be guided as we implore your understanding and calm”.
