The Governor Hope Uzodinma-led Imo State government is said to have directed that the position of Principal, Junior Secondary School (JSS) be scrapped in the 313 public secondary schools in the state.
A memo signed by the Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Imo State Secondary Education Management Board SEMB, stated that, the administration of each public Secondary school should be handled by a Principal, who should be the Head of the School assisted by a Vice Principal and Dean of Studies for smooth administrative purposes.
“In addition the Governor has also directed for immediate submission to his office, list of the 313 Public Secondary School (PSS) and their Principals for payment of running cost”.
Most Imolites who commented on the current development said the decision is not in the best interest of the education system adding that having a Principal for the Senior Secondary School SS and one for the Junior Secondary school (JSS) is a more ideal as it decentralizes administration for more optimal and effective performance.
Effort to reach the Commissioner for Education, Prof JohnCliff Nwadike for comments proved abortive as he did not respond to calls put to his phone.
