–Berate Monarchs For Dancing Naked
Orluzurumee Youth Assembly (OYA) the apex socio-cultural organization of youths in the 12 local government Areas of Orlu zone, has distanced and dissociated its self from the purported endorsement of a particular governorship candidate by some traditional rulers in the zone.
The group, in a release signed by Comrade Thaddeus Emejuru and Comrade Chibueze Pascal as National President and National Secretary, respectively expressed disappointment that the Monarchs reduced themselves by abandoning their revered traditional stools and institutions to dabble into the murky waters of partisan politics.
“Besides, endorsing a particular governorship candidate without feeling the pulse of majority of Orlu people is the height of arrogance, insensitivity and abuse of office”.
The release dated September, 3, 2023, reads, “The Attention of Orluzurumee youth Assembly, the apex socio cultural youth body in Orlu zone has been drawn to the recent inconsequential but deceptive political proclamation made by some traditional rulers of Orlu zone on the choice of Orlu people ahead of November 11th Governorship election.
“These inconsiderate Traditional rulers were said to have congregated at Nkwerre Local Government Area, recently, for the sole purpose of endorsing a particular governorship candidate without feeling the pulse of majority of Orlu people who have reached out to us in condemnation of their action as they never spoke the mind of anybody, not even their family members.
“In as much as we don’t want to join issues we the said Monarchs, we wish to register our disappointment on the way most of them have abandoned their traditional roles, stools and institution to embrace partisan politics thereby making mess of our revered traditional institution.
“As the leaders of today and tomorrow, we call on them to refrain from further ridiculing of our people who have gone through alot in the past years, ranging from; dearth of economic activities, loss of lives and property, etc. At present, no business strives more than caskets and other burial accessories in Orlu.
“We had thought that the so called monarchs who were involved in this charade called political endorsement would have concerned themselves about measures necessary to restore peace in the area and end the killings of mainly young people of the area, rather than mocking the people.
“We hereby state and affirm that it is against the tenets of democracy for any one or group to make such deadly decree and pronouncement against our people on who to vote for. One would ask what power do these traditional rulers have to say that *”Ala Orlu ga akugbu onye obula na evotughiri party ha? “. This is the height of misguided utterance.
“We wish to state categorically and unequivocally that Orlu people for now have not endorsed anybody for November 11th Governorship election.
“The people are at liberty to vote any candidate of their choice.
“At present, Orluzurumee Youth Assembly and other genuine pro-Orlu groups are consulting with the stakeholders (Including town Unions) on the way forward for the area. We shall base our decision on the following parameters; one with capacity to address insecurity in the area, develop the zone and address the near infrastructural decay of major state owned facilities in Orlu zone. Such facilities include; The Imo State University teaching hospital,(IMSUTH),Nursing school, Okporo, Orlu, KO Mbadiwe University and many more that have been without any attention or support from the current government of Imo state.
“However, we commend the Governor for the Orlu-Owerri Road which was built to standard.
“We hope and pray that Uzodimma will pay attention to the numerous needs of Orlu people and pay deaf ears to so many sycophants around him, who at all time paint pictures that are not the true position of happenings in the area.
LET PEACE REIGN AGAIN IN ORLU”.
