Mazi Theodore Chinonoso Uba, popular known as Nonso Nkwa, who was unlawfully detained for 29 days at the Force Criminal Investigation Department FCID, Abuja despite a Court Oder that he should be granted bail, has finally regained his freedom.
It was gathered that the broadcaster and human rights activist was granted bail on Tuesday after he fulfilled the questionable stringent conditions the police gave.
A source who spoke to Nonso Nkwa yesterday morning said, “he is still in his ever bubbling spirit. He has, from all indications refused to be cowed or intimidated and is still passionately committed to his fight against injustice, bad governance, corruption and other vices in the society”.
Recall that Mazi Chinonoso Uba of Ozisa fm radio station was arrested a month ago in a gestapo manner in front of Holy Ghost College, Owerri by hooded men on black attire, who were later discovered to be officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, (FCID) Abuja.
It was also later confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Imo State that, he was arrested at the instance of the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma who petitioned the police that Nonso Nkwa accused him and Asari Dokubo of being behind the insecurity in the state.
However, few days after Nonso Nkwa’s arrest, Asari Dokubo confirmed in a viral video of an interview he granted Channels Television that he owns a private military company that is engaged by the federal government of Nigeria to carry out operations in about five states including Imo, Benue, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra. Incidentally, the states he mentioned have been very volatile for sometime as a result of incessant killings, arson, kidnapping and other security challenges, thereby exonerating Nonso Nkwa.
Following his unlawful detention several individuals and groups called for his release or arraignment in court for what ever offence he is accused of. The police refused to bulge until Tuesday.
